Yo! We are Cloe and Bernard Van De Velde

Hi folks! We are a happy couple from Belgium, who decided to leave our cozy home in Antwerp in favor of discovering the magic of faraway lands. Our thirst for adventure calls to us and we are always looking for new interesting places to visit.

Glamping – Not Just For Wimps

To someone who has spent many nights under the stars, often without a tent, the glamping phenomenon seemed a little silly. “This is camping for wimps”, I thought, that is until I tried it and instantly got hooked. Now, I wouldn’t even consider camping, it’s just too rough and glamping is simply divine.

My First Glamping Experience

Our annual camping holiday was coming up and as usual, we were looking for a good campsite. Ideally, we’d always choose the destination first and then go on to find a campsite. When you do travel research online, you always come across tempting trip options and this time was no different. We were googling campsites in Sardinia, Italy, and stumbled across the glamping site in Capo Ferrato, in the southeast of Sardinia. Admittedly, the pictures of the wooden mobile homes looked stunning. I wasn’t convinced, though. This wasn’t camping, this was more like staying at a luxury hotel. “So what”, I heard the response from my partner who at that point had already decided to book us into one of these gorgeous mobile homes. After a lot of discussions and several of my impassioned speeches about the beauty and simplicity of camping, I capitulated and we booked.

Packing for this holiday was different. We didn’t have the habitual camping gear war, our backpacks were light and though I would never have admitted it, this came as a relief. Logging around tents, sleeping bags, cooking utensils, and all the other camping essentials can be a real headache, especially if you are travelling by air.

This time, we were travelling light and leisurely, and on our arrival at Cagliari Airport, we soon discovered a bus that would take us to Capo Ferrato in just over one hour.

Heaven on Earth

The setting was picturesque, nestled among a few trees a mere stone’s throw from a beautiful beach were four beautiful wooden mobile homes. Each had a patio area at the front, with gorgeous drapes and colourful cushions and beanbags. Inside, there were two bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchenette, a dining/living room area, and two luxurious bathrooms with hotel-grade towels. It was nearly too good to be true. The camping enthusiast inside me rebelled but for a few moments. “Who cares if you don’t have to make a campfire, stumble over roots or struggle to erect a tent on uneven ground?” I said to myself. We cooked and had dinner on our patio and gazed upon the stars for nearly the entire night.

A Marriage Made in Heaven – Stunning Nature and Luxury Living

Camping enthusiasts do it for the love of the great outdoors, to just for a few days, become part of the natural environment and leave the trappings of modern living behind. All of us secretly bemoan the pain you get in your back from sleeping on the ground, the dampness and critters, and the lack of hot water and Wi-Fi. Of course, none of us would ever admit to that.

With glamping, you get everything. You are nearly as close to nature, can sit outside all day, go hiking and trekking, swimming in the sea at midnight and cook outside. It’s all possible but you also have a comfortable bed, lots of nearby facilities, Wi-Fi and phone charging options, and as much or as little modern living as you wish.

As for our holiday in Sardinia, well, we went hiking, swimming, and spent the majority of our time in the great outdoors. We did avail of some of the many facilities without forsaking nature. It really did provide the best of both worlds and I went from being a camping enthusiast to being a glamping enthusiast within minutes.

Glamping All Over the World

You will find outstanding glamping sites scattered all over the world. Some of them offer luxury tents with king-size beds and champagne on arrival while others offer a more rustic experience with outdoor fire pits where you can roast marshmallows over a bed of glowing oak logs. Many sites also offer activities like kayaking, mountain biking, and yoga. You can also find sites with hot tubs, saunas, and swimming pools. Whatever you decide, glamping promises to be an unforgettable experience.

We don’t go on camping holidays anymore, we go glamping instead, every year. It’s better than a hotel stay, a crowded apartment complex, or a packed campsite. It’s the only way. Nature, luxury living – a match made in heaven!
